In the Season 10 finale, Eugene, Yumiko, Ezekiel and Princess finally make it to Charleston, but possibly too late to meet Stephanie.
WARNING: The following article includes spoilers for The Walking Dead Season 10, Episode 16 “A Certain Doom,” which aired Sunday on AMC.
When we last saw the small group of Eugene, Yumiko and Ezekiel, who were heading to Charleston to meet Stephanie, they’d encountered Princess who, after scaring away their horses, hooked them up with new wheels — bicycle wheels. Now, in the delayed Season 10 finale, “A Certain Doom,” they’re cycling their way to the rendezvous point along with Princess who has become the fourth member of their group.
Unfortunately, they’ve hit a snag. Eugene’s bicycle wheel is bent and Eugene’s on the ground bleeding from the head. The worst part, as far as their mission is concerned, is that it’s now way too late to get to the meeting place by the time Stephanie specified.

Eugene is feeling defeated and suggests they just go home. Ezekiel is the voice of hope, he insists they complete their journey for all of them and everyone back home. After all, they’ve always gone up against impossible odds. Eugene agrees to grab onto that hope and continue.
At the end of the episode, the group finally makes it to their destination: an abandoned train yard. It’s nighttime and way past the scheduling meeting time, and as Eugene suspected, Stephanie isn’t there. They wait just in case. Ezekiel suggests they stay the night, but Eugene knows they’ve missed their opportunity. Still, he says they shouldn’t turn back. Now that they know there are other people out there, they should continue to look for them. After all, assimilating with a new group will only make everyone stronger. Yumiko, Ezekiel and Princess agree to his plan.
However, just as they’re seeming to feel hopeful once more, the lights all around them turn on and armored soldiers come at them from all sides. They’re instructed to put their weapons down and their hands in the air. Eugene, Ezekiel, Yumiko and Princess huddle in a group and reluctantly do as instructed. The soldiers circle and aim their guns at them as the episode ends.
Could the soldiers be people from Stephanie’s community? Or is this a different group entirely? We’ll find out when The Walking Dead continues at an unspecified time in 2021. However, if this is Stephanie’s group, they haven’t exactly made a stellar first impression, and trust may take a bit longer to build than Eugene expected.
The Walking Dead Season 10 finale stars Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Josh McDermitt, Christian Serratos, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Seth Gilliam, Ross Marquand, Khary Payton and Cooper Andrews. New episodes will air on AMC in 2021.
