The official trailer for Netflix’s We Can Be Heroes is out now. The latest action flick from Spy Kids director Robert Rodriguez is a loose follow-up to The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl.

Netflix has released the official trailer for the movie on YouTube, featuring a cast of familiar adult faces (Pedro Pascal, Christian Slater, Priyanka Chopra) and new kids on the block (Yaya Gosselin, Vivien Lyra Blair, Isaiah Russell-Bailey). Taylor Dooley returns as Lavagirl with Boyd Holbrook taking Taylor Lautner’s place as Sharkboy. Sung Kang, Christopher McDonald, and many other youths also star. We Can Be Heroes premieres on Netflix this Christmas (December 25, 2020). Watch the trailer below:

In We Can Be Heroes, the superheroes of Sharkboy and Lavagirl’s generation are now super-parents with super-kids. When their parents are abducted by aliens, the children must cultivate their own powers in order to save the world. The Netflix movie arrives at a time when the coronavirus pandemic is forcing many productions to forego theatrical runs and instead premiere direct to streaming. Interestingly, though We Can Be Heroes is a visually exciting action movie that would likely benefit from viewing it on the big screen, Netflix acquired the project well before COVID-19 hit. Viewers can probably expect to be streaming superhero movies more often as streaming platforms corner the market.

Read Netflix’s synopsis for We Can Be Heroes below:

When alien invaders kidnap Earth’s superheroes, their kids are whisked away to a government safe house. But whip-smart tween Missy Moreno (Yaya Gosselin) will stop at nothing to rescue her superhero dad, Marcus Moreno (Pedro Pascal). Missy teams up with the rest of the superkids to escape their mysterious government babysitter, Ms. Granada (Priyanka Chopra Jonas). If they’re going to save their parents, they’ll have to work together by using their individual powers—from elasticity to time control to predicting the future—and form an out-of-this-world team.
