On the latest episode of Legacies, the Necromancer shares his dastardly plan with his new partner Alyssa, but Alyssa wants to think even bigger.

WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Legacies Season 3, Episode 2, “Goodbyes Sure Do Suck,” which aired Thursday on The CW.

In last week’s episode of Legacies, the Necromancer finally got ahold of Josie’s dark magic, which infused him with more power than he already had. And in the series’ latest episode, “Goodbyes Sure Do Suck,” he’s teamed up with a vengeful Alyssa who’s determined to punish the people at the Salvatore School who shunned her. But first, the Necromancer shares with Alyssa the amazingly evil plan he’s cooked up to make both of their desires for mayhem and terror come true. Yet, to his surprise, Alyssa is less than impressed, leading the pair to think even bigger.

While there’s an obvious power imbalance between Alyssa and the Necromancer, that doesn’t stop Alyssa from interrogating him as if she has other options. One point of contention: the Nercomancer’s reconstituted Malivore Pit, which she deems an “eye sore.” More importantly, unless his plan will cause the Salvatore School to suffer, she’s not willing to ally with him, which forces him to go into detail about the grand plan he’s talked up to her.

When he finishes regaling her with the details, Alyssa frustrates the Necromancer with her blasé response, who then chalks her reaction up to her inability to comprehend the magnificence of his plot. To prove him wrong, she sums his idea up: use the black magic he acquired from Josie to cast a spell to raise Malivore but modify the spell so Malivore becomes the Necromancer’s servant. Alyssa doesn’t think it’s a bad plan but she also recognizes the Necromancer is mostly trying to get revenge on Malivore after Malivore relegated him to the pit. Alyssa observes the plan is awfully limited given the Necromancer’s black magic could accomplish a lot more. She proposes in addition to raising Malivore, they raise all the monsters in the pit as the Necromancer’s servants.

The Necromancer is thrilled with the idea and even agrees to make Alyssa his partner instead of his acolyte. He then resurrects the Sphinx, an oracle who was once in Malivore’s pit, to ask whether their plan will work. According to the Oracle, their success is assured. And not only that, the Salvatore School students will suffer and one will die.

Of course, the students at the Salvatore School have gone up against the monsters from Malivore’s pit before, although they weren’t under the Necromancer’s control then. Plus, it’s unclear if the Necromancer and Alyssa will raise the monsters and Malivore all at once or take a more piecemeal approach. One way or another it seems that Hope, Lizzie and the others will have a lot to contend with this season. And since we don’t know which student is destined to die, they should be especially cautious.

Legacies stars Danielle Rose Russell, Jenny Boyd, Kaylee Bryant, Quincy Fouse, Aria Shahghasemi, Peyton Alex Smith, Matt Davis, Chris Lee, Ben Levin and Leo Howard. New episodes air Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
