American Gods and Creepshow have removed Marilyn Manson’s upcoming appearances following abuse and grooming allegations from Evan Rachel Wood.
A Starz spokesperson told Deadline, “Due to the allegations made against Marilyn Manson, we have decided to remove his performance from the remaining episode he is in, scheduled to air later this season. Starz stands unequivocally with all victims and survivors of abuse.” A representative for AMC’s Shudder also told Deadline that an upcoming episode of its Creepshow anthology starring Manson has been pulled, with Manson’s segment being replaced.
Wood released a social media post accusing ex-boyfriend Marilyn Manson of grooming and abuse. “The name of my abuser is Brian Warner, also known to the world as Marilyn Manson,” Wood wrote on Instagram. “He started grooming me when I was a teenager and horrifically abused me for years. I was brainwashed and manipulated into submission. I am done living in fear of retaliation, slander, or blackmail. I am here to expose this dangerous man and call out the many industries that have enabled him, before he ruins any more lives. I stand with the many victims who will no longer be silent.”
Manson has responded with his own social media statement, calling Wood’s claims “horrible distortions of reality.” Loma Vista Recordings has also severed ties with Marilyn Manson.
“Obviously, my art and my life have long been magnets for controversy, but these recent claims about me are horrible distortions of reality,” Manson wrote on Instagram. “My intimate relationships have always been entirely consensual with like-minded partners. Regardless of how – and why – others are now choosing to misrepresent the past, that is the truth.”
Wood, who plays Dolores Abernathy on HBO’s Westworld, went public with hers and Manson’s relationship in 2007, even appearing in the music video for “Heart-Shaped Glasses,” of which she’s the inspiration. The two became engaged in 2010 but ended their relationship less than a year later.
In 2016, Wood revealed she’d been raped twice years earlier by someone significant to her but stopped short of naming names. However, many speculated it was Manson, who denied such allegations.
