The art director of the God of War franchise provided an epic illustration of Galactus the World Eater and his herald, the Silver Surfer.

The art director of the God of War series offered his epic glimpse at two characters yet to be introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Silver Surfer and Galactus.

The artist, Raf Grassetti, shared the image in a Twitter post, depicting the two characters in a fairly realistic style. Despite the realism, they both still appear to be taken straight off the page. Galactus’s armor is comic book accurate, and the Silver Surfer is poised atop his signature board, created by his former master. All of this is set against a cosmic backdrop, the domain to which both characters are most commonly found.

The Silver Surfer has not been in a live-action film from Marvel Studios since his appearance in Fox’s Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. His introduction into the MCU would likely also bring in Galactus due to the two characters’ stories being intrinsically linked. Following Thanos’ demise in the climax of Avengers: Endgame, there is now a vacancy for a big bad to occupy the overshadowing threat throughout the movies. His overwhelming cosmic power would certainly be enough to be considered an Avengers-level threat. The difference in scale between the characters in the image further emphasizes Galactus’ reputation as The World Eater.

In many ways, Galactus is presented as a dangerous God-like figure in the MCU, which is fitting given Grassetti’s involvement in the God of War franchise. The World Eater’s lack of regard for mortal life, leeching away the life of living planets, certainly positions him as the kind of entity that Kratos would seek to destroy. The game franchise itself has recently received another surge of relevance, as not only is the sequel God of War: Ragnarok planned for a 2021 release, but also the 2018 game just received a free next-gen update for the PlayStation 5.

Grassetti followed the post with a comment, saying “Something from today because WandaVision got me hyped again.” He did not specify what part of the episode specifically inspired him to upload a Galactus and Silver Surfer image. There has, however, been online speculations of Mephisto appearing in WandaVision, a character first introduced in Silver Surfer #3 (1968).

While Grassetti currently works for Santa Monica Studios, he regularly uploads his character artwork to his social media, including Twitter and Instagram. He has recreated various characters in his gritty, realistic style, including DC, Marvel and anime heroes and villains.
