Winona Ryder appeared in a Cadillac commercial as the mother of Edgar Scissorhands, played by Timothée Chalamet, set to air during Super Bowl LV.
Winona Ryder reprised her Edward Scissorhands role for a Cadillac commercial set to air during Super Bowl LV alongside Timothée Chalamet.
“This is the story of a boy with scissors for hands. No, not that one,” Ryder says as the commercial begins. Ryder, who played Kim in the 1990 film, appears as the mother of Edward Scissorhands’ similarly afflicted son, Edgar, who is played by Chalamet. The commercial for the all-electric Cadillac advertises the vehicle’s hands-free driving capabilities, so while someone with scissors for hands might not catch a football, they can drive a car.
Edward Scissorhands is not the only film to receive a “reboot” for the Super Bowl; Mike Myers and Dana Carvey recently reunited as their Wayne’s World characters for an Uber Eats ad, which is also set to air during the Feb. 7 game. John Cena is also expected to appear in a Mountain Dew ad to award $1 million to one lucky viewer.
While some major entertainment companies (such as HBO Max, Peacock, Apple TV and Netflix) have chosen to sit out the 2021 Super Bowl, there have been reports that Disney will premiere trailers for at least four new projects. The report suggests that these ads might include promos for the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki, along with film trailers for Raya and the Last Dragon and the long-awaited Black Widow. However, nothing has been confirmed.
The “Scissorhands Free” Cadillac commercial and all other confirmed ads will air during Super Bowl LV, which will be played by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Kansas City Chiefs. The game will air live on Sunday, Feb. 7 at 6:30 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
