A new trailer for J.G. Quintel’s adult animated series Close Enough reveals its Season 2 premiere date. Moreover, the show has been renewed for Season 3 at HBO Max.
The Close Enough Season 2 trailer rejoins the characters of Josh, Emily, their daughter and their friends for more chaotic, off-the-wall cartoon hijinks. While it was previously announced that Season 2 would arrive on HBO Max sometime this month, the trailer confirms the drop date of Feb. 25. Additionally, Bill Oakley announced on Twitter that he has been promoted to head writer and executive producer for the upcoming Season 3.
A spiritual successor to Quintel’s popular Cartoon Network series Regular Show, Close Enough dropped its first season on HBO Max on July 9, 2020, and was picked up for Season 2 the following month. The series was originally announced for TBS back in 2017, though was temporarily shelved after the network’s planned adult animation block fell through. The show follows Josh and Emily, a married couple in their early 30s, who live with their young daughter Candice and their divorced friends Alex and Bridgette.
The announcement of Close Enough‘s Season 2 premiere date and its Season 3 renewal coincide with various other HBO Max announcements, including an adult-oriented Scooby-Doo spinoff series centering around Velma and an adaptation of the DC/Jinxworld comic book series Cover, as well as the rebooted version of Clone High getting a two-season order.
“It is a tremendous privilege to build on the 100 year plus legacy of ‘cartoons’ at this company,” said Suzanna Makkos, Executive Vice President of Original Comedy and Adult Animation at HBO Max. “We can draw a straight line from our hundreds of childhood hours spent watching Bugs outwit Elmer to the current slate of adult animated projects we are building here at HBO Max and we think fans will agree. We are proud to introduce this distinctive group of series from a wide range of diverse creators that will form a first stop destination for animation lovers everywhere.”
Created by J.G. Quintel, Close Enough stars Quintel as Josh Singleton, Gabrielle Walsh as Emily Ramirez-Singleton, Jessica DiCicco as Candice Ramirez-Singleton, Jason Mantzoukas as Alex Dorpenberger, Kimiko Glenn as Bridgette Yoshida, Danielle Brooks as Pearle Watson and James Adomian as Randy Watson. Season 1 is currently streaming on HBO Max. Season 2 arrives on Feb. 25.
