One of the biggest films to come out of China this year is A Writer’s Odyssey, with a new ultimate trailer showcasing the epic fantasy world.
While many major films are either in a holding pattern for a theatrical release or premiering simultaneously on premium streaming services, the latest Chinese epic A Writer’s Odyssey is now out in theaters.
Released just in time for the Lunar New Year, A Writer’s Odyssey follows an unassuming novelist named Lu Kongwen whose latest work, The Godslayer, becomes literal, threatening to plunge the entire world under his devastating rule.
As Lu scrambles to confront and destroy his own creation Redmane, he is targeted by an assassin named Guan Ning as the world is reshaped into a sweeping fantasy, filled with ancient warriors, ravenous monsters and mythical ships and palaces.
Distributed by China’s CMC Pictures, CBR’s own advance review of A Writer’s Odyssey lauds the sheer scope and spectacle, as a strong reminder of the value of cinematic storytelling and the fantasy genre embracing Chinese folklore to weave an engrossing adventure.
A Writer’s Odyssey is based on the novel by Shuang Xuetao and directed by Lu Yang, with Ning Hao as executive producer. It stars Dong Zijian, Lei Jiayin, Yang Mi, Yu Hewei, Guo Jingfei and Tong Liya. The film is now out in theaters.
