Shazam! star Zachary Levi discussed his love of the Kingdom Come miniseries and said he would love to be part of a potential film adaptation.
Levi was asked by a fan if he read Kingdom Come, who also said they’d love to see it represented on screen. “I have. and I wholeheartedly agree. Would love to see that happen, whether I’m involved or not,” Levi wrote. He also praised creators Alex Ross and Mark Waid for creating a “transcendent” story, to which Ross replied, “Thank you for the shoutout!”
I have. And I wholeheartedly agree. Would love to see that happen, whether I’m involved or not. @thealexrossart and @MarkWaid created something no short of transcendent in that piece. It speaks to so many facets of the human condition, using superhuman characters. Superb. 👌 https://t.co/m559CUssqI

Kingdom Come takes place in a future where the heroes of the DC Universe find themselves in conflict with a new generation of vigilantes, with preacher Norman McCay visited by premonitions of a superhuman apocalypse. Shazam appears in the series as a brainwashed cohort of Lex Luthor and engages Superman in battle in the final issue before ultimately sacrificing himself to stop a nuclear warhead.

Elements of Kingdom Come have found their way into other DC film and television adaptations. During The CW’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover, Brandon Routh reprised his role as Superman, with a costume that replicated Superman’s Kingdom Come uniform. Kevin Conroy also portrayed a version of Batman that had a metallic exo-suit similar to the one a broken and weary Bruce Wayne wore in Kingdom Come. Finally, the Golden Eagle armor that Diana Prince wore in Wonder Woman 1984 is lifted wholesale from Kingdom Come.
Levi will reprise his role as Shazam in Shazam! Fury of the Gods, which arrives in theaters June 2, 2023.
