The NBC sitcom Young Rock starts off in the year 2032, as superstar Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson moves on from acting to go on a presidential campaign. Since he is deemed too big of a star to connect with the people of the country, Johnson agrees to sit down for an elaborate interview conducted by Randall Park. The purpose of this interview is to shed a light on Johnson’s formative years, from his childhood in 1982 and his teenage years in 1987 to his time as a college football player in 1991.

The series reveals plenty about the actor’s past, but the segments set in 2032 also bring surprise revelations about things that have yet to happen. Namely, part of Johnson’s future movie career is revealed, and it’s pretty hilarious.
Johnson is one of the biggest movie stars in the world, and he has an extensive career with certifiable smash hits to prove it. The prolific actor stars in multiple franchises, and it seems like he is never going to stop. It’s this ambition and Johnson’s never-ending drive to take on new roles that is the source of a hilarious joke in the series premiere of Young Rock.
During his 2032 interview with Park, Johnson makes a passing remark about the movies he’s recently starred in, which include a fifth Jumanji movie, as well as a Kiss biopic where the actor played Gene Simmons.
The Rock is poking fun at himself. The joke works because it shows he’s self-aware of how many movies he’s starring in, and how many franchises he is spearheading. Another Jumanji starring Johnson is in development, which means a fifth instalment isn’t all that impossible. However, a Kiss biopic with the actor in one of the lead roles is extremely far fetched — but that’s what makes the joke so funny.
At the first season of Young Rock progresses, viewers will surely learn even more about the Rock’s potential future career. Will Black Adam be a big hit that will lead to Johnson facing the Justice League? Will the actor ever join the Marvel Cinematic Universe? There are plenty of possibilities, and each could reveal a hilarious future for the actor.
Starring Dwayne Johnson, Joseph Lee Anderson, Stacey Leilua, Adrian Groulx, Bradley Constant, Uli Latukefu, Ana Tuisila, Fasitua Amosa and John Tui, Young Rock premieres Tuesday, Feb. 16 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
