It’s Halloween once again in Purgatory, with Wynonna and Waverly Earp confronting a monstrous serial killer. Here’s a spoiler-filled recap of what happened in Episode 8, “Hell Raisin’ Good Time.”

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Wynonna Earp Season 4, Episode 8, “Hell Raisin’ Good Time,” which aired Friday on Syfy.

In Wynonna Earp’s latest episode, “Hell Raisin’ Good Time,” the titular gunslinger wakes up from her fling with Amon, greeted by workers at The Glory Hole preparing for the night’s Halloween celebrations. Soon after, she departs on her hungover walk of shame. Halloween in Purgatory is always an especially malevolent occasion, and this year proves no different, with a pumpkin-headed scarecrow coming to life and brutally killing two Black Badge Division operatives. As Wynonna and Waverly receive their briefing from Jeremy Chetri on the new supernatural menace, they learn the culprit is Rotten Jack, the reason why Purgatory keeps jack-o-lanterns.

As Amon watches a tarot-lined roulette wheel predicting Rotten Jack’s next target, he taunts Doc Holliday over shacking up with Wynonna the night before. Doc observes that Wynonna eventually backstabs everyone that gets close to her, and he soon quits his job as Amon’s hired gun. After Doc storms out of the nightclub, Rotten Jack attacks a woman who mistakes him for a trick-or-treater. Wynonna and Waverly approach a paranoid figure living on the outskirts of town revealed to be an extractor capable of subduing Rotten Jack before he strikes again. The extractor responds by wiping both women’s memories. They then confusedly return home and accidentally swap names, assuming Waverly is a cop as they battle through their amnesia. Still, Wynonna retains her love of whiskey, though she does leave Peacemaker behind.

Investigating Shorty’s to learn more about their forgotten identities, Waverly and Wynonna flee in terror when they discover demons and vampires are real when Amon’s goons arrive to accost Doc. This sends them right into Amon’s arms, who offers to entertain them with a Halloween party back at The Glory Hole, unaware of his true demonic nature. Taking them both prisoner, Amon puts both sisters up for auction before his demon audience for the honor to execute each of them. The winning bidder is Jeremy, who injects both sisters with a memory-restoring serum just in time for Doc and the extractor to arrive with Peacemaker. However, Rotten Jack then enters the club, intending to kill Waverly due to her angelic parentage next.

The extractor and Waverly are able to defeat Rotten Jack before he claims anymore victims and as Wynonna brings his pumpkin remains back to the BBD, she learns from Jeremy that the mind fog — the ethereal substance driving those engulfed in it for a prolonged period to madness — around the borders of Purgatory are spreading. And with another Halloween crisis quashed, Doc takes another threat off the board by freeing Amon’s demons and turning them on their master as Purgatory loses its most sinister presence… for now.

Produced by SEVEN24 Films and IDW Entertainment, Wynonna Earp stars Melanie Scrofano as the title character, Dominique Provost-Chalkley as Waverly, Katherine Barrell as Nicole Haught and Tim Rozon as Doc Holliday. New episodes of Wynonna Earp Season 4 air Fridays on Syfy.
