Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Ewan McGregor shows off the return of his full Jedi Master beard before filming starts on Disney+’s upcoming Star Wars series.

In preparation for Disney+’s upcoming Star Wars series Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ewan McGregor’s Jedi Master beard from the Star Wars prequel trilogy has fully returned.

McGregor’s bearded look was spotted as he was hanging out with fellow gearhead Randy Carlson. McGregor’s beard is designed to fit the Star Wars timeline of the upcoming show, resembling the facial hair middle-aged Kenobi wore in Revenge of the Sith.

Although the series has yet to announce a firm start date to filming, McGregor previously told fans that Obi-Wan Kenobi will start filming in late spring 2021. “We start making it in the late spring, and I think we’re going to be shooting it here in LA,” McGregor stated.

Earlier in 2020, it was rumored that the filming would take place in Boston, Massachusetts, but the Star Wars star debunked that theory as a misinterpreted rumor — at one point, the show was going to film in Boston, England.

Obi-Wan Kenobi will follow the Jedi Master during his period of exile on Tatooine between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. At Disney’s Investor Day presentation in late 2020, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy officially confirmed that McGregor’s sequel trilogy co-star Hayden Christensen will reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader.

Star Wars alum Liam Neeson, who portrays Qui-Gon Jinn in the prequel series, has not been tapped yet to appear in the upcoming Disney+ series. However, he stated in January 2021 that he would be interested in the series. “I’ll be honest with you: I haven’t heard that at all,” he said. When asked if he would participate in the Star Wars series, he added, “Sure, I’d be up for that, yeah.”

In March 2021, actor Ahmed Best confirmed that he wouldn’t be reprising his role as Jar Jar Binks from the Star Wars prequel trilogy in Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Directed by Deborah Chow, Obi-Wan Kenobi stars Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen, Joel Edgerton, Moses Ingram, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell and Benny Safdie. The series has yet to receive a premiere date.
