In a new promo clip, Paramount+ reveals the anticipated CG-animated Rugrats revival series will be hitting its streaming service in May.
The upcoming Rugrats revival series finally has a release date.
Paramount+ released a promo on YouTube, highlighting everything arriving on its streaming platform in May. Among several upcoming programs, the CG-animated version of Rugrats was included with its premiere date, May 27. The promo also included a glimpse at CG-animated Tommy and Angelica butting heads when Angelica steals Tommy’s toy ball.
The Rugrats series was first announced in 2018, notably promising the return of the Nickelodeon series’ original voice cast. In addition to the new Paramount+ series, a CG/live-action hybrid film directed by David Bowers (Diary of a Wimpy Kid) is also in development.
“Rugrats is hands-down one of the most celebrated cartoons in TV history, and we are thrilled for a whole new audience to meet these iconic characters in brand-new adventures,” Nickelodeon said when the revival announcement was made. “What was true in 1991 when the original show premiered is still true today: kids are fascinated with the world of babies. We can’t wait for today’s kids to meet Tommy, Chuckie and pals.”
The original Rugrats series premiered in 1991, becoming a quick success and spawning three feature films and a short-lived spinoff series All Grown Up!
Other films and television shows coming to Paramount+ in May include Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, Beavis and Butt-Head Do America, as well as The Equalizer reboot starring Queen Latifah. Paramount+ also plans to give the live-action treatment to other classic Nickelodeon cartoons including Dora The Explorer and The Fairly OddParents.
The Rugrats revival series will premiere on May 27 on Paramount+.
